Trying to make something so that you can see what rims look like on your car... without having to install/buy them first! What do you guys think?

Tirerack has this feature. I use it aaaaallll the time, often on cars I don't even own.

Well, it's not a "look at rims on ur car!!" page—you go to the section of the website where you're shopping for wheels and enter your car info. Then you sift/filter through the available wheels and each one has a "view on your car" button. Click it.

So this actually locates the wheels in a pic of your choice and then works from there?
Tire Rack (and I think Andy's Auto Sport, but it's been forever since I visited that site) have a visualization tool that uses default models, but this goes a step beyond that if I'm seeing it right. Pretty cool!

Here you go:

This is what it looks like when you click on "view on vehicle" next to the price of each set of wheels:

Yeah, I'm hoping I can make it into a mobile app so that anyone can scan a car's rims and replace them via augmented reality right on their smartphone.

You're welcome. I do like your idea though because you could seemingly use any wheel you wanted to in it. With Tire Rack, you are just limited to wheels that they sell.
